Commercial Flat Lays | My Secrets For Getting Quality and Diversity
This blog post is about commercial flat lays, my secret tips for getting quality images! Flat lays might seem overwhelming, but trust me when I tell you that they are the EASIEST way to get quick content and have fun! Quality flat lays are also are a huge factor in boosting sales!
First secret: and the most underrated Secret; Natural light.
To avoid shadows and to get the most true to color for your products you are photographing you want to use mother natures light!
It is THE KEY to get the best images. Shoot flat lays next to a window, or even outdoors in an evenly shaded area!
Second secret: Shoot simple first! We as photographers have a tendency to get in depth and involved right from the get go, then we feel burnt out and unsure how to creatively take it up a notch after that. Get a single shot of your product FIRST. This gives you the option of simplicity, as well as easy ability to creatively lay the item out (There are so many different ways to lay a sweatshirt and sweatpants, lots of variety with zero added props!).
This also gives you the option to add white background to the photos later if you are needing to or if your client requests this for sites like Amazon and Etsy.
Third secret: Add props! You’ve folded the sweat set all cutesy, now add some props! Whether you add neutral props, or add themed props like Valentines Day, Spring, 4th of July, or Halloween, this will set you apart from other photographers every time! It catches the customers eye, and gets them to stop and look. Its also just a fun way to promote the products (and your talent).
Fourth and final secret: Get that Creativity going!
You can create SO MUCH cute content, just by changing up positioning of products, dropping products, adding your own personal flare. One of my all time faves is the “messy pile”! Try it and let me know what you think!
